Here we are!! Home Stretch!!
We are finalizing the last of the plans. The Concrete work is starting this week, and we hope to have it done by Friday when the Appliances are delivered. Friday also is our hopeful “house clean day” when all the interior work is finished and our cleaning crew can come in and make the house ready for the move. Saturday morning, cable and internet are hooked up and Saturday afternoon, the moving crew will begin moving The Hill Haus into the Duffner Dugout (eh?… maybe). This week I am meeting with the cleaning lady to finalize cost and dates to clean; we are shopping for couches/ loveseats/ hutch and other odds and ends at the Antique Malls. We have a goal of packing two boxes each everyday. Steady Wins The Race. Depending on how we are doing, I may end up taking Thursday afternoon off to finish any packing. This will hurt our financial budget a bit, but as we are hitting home stretch hard, I want to make sure our ducks are perfectly in a row and I realize that I will probably need that time for odds and ends.
We had another minor set back with the dining room. We’ve been debating about the tin ceiling… not if we want them or not, because we definitely want them, more if we should spend the money on faux tin ceilings (more expensive than we thought) or hold out for the real thing. My bro-in-law has a connection with a team that demolishes or rehabs buildings (depending on what the owner wants) and he comes across old tin ceilings from time to time. Dwayne thought that he would be able to put a call out for some tin ceiling and when they came across it, that the guy would let him and his crew come take it for our house. This could happen in two weeks, two months, a year. However, Dwayne said that when they came across it, he’d be willing to get it and put it up for us, so that we have the real thing. This means we could spend the same amount of money now for some sub-par faux product, or we could spend the same amount of money later for the real thing. We opted to wait and get the real thing.
Other than that we are moving along full speed ahead! Paint’s getting put up, old paint is getting scrapped off and the stairs are being sanded, getting ready to be refinished. We are getting a larger mail slot put in, and finishing up some fixture exchanges. We are in negotiations to get the dining room chairs reupholstered in something that would match the décor better. It’s all coming at a steady clip and often we just feel like we are along for a ride that we are no longer steering! Look Ma! No Hands!
Here are some photos of some of the new paint work on the house:
